I was let go of my dream job and I'm completely destroyed
  • 03
I got back from a work trip to a conference to find my position was eliminated. The company said they are doing restructuring and my job became redundant. I
  • 04
don't believe this for a second - for one thing, no one else in my department was let go, just me, and we were in the middle of having our financials audited so
  • 05
why would they make a decision about restructuring before anything had been analyzed? This was my dream job and I moved from my home of 15 years to a smaller city far from
  • 06
everything and everyone I know. Jobs are hard to find here, let alone a specialized position that I have (work in arts administration management). I'm completely shocked and destroyed. I would
  • 07
have felt differently if I hated this job or if it was only for survival, but as I said, this was my dream job that I loved and I thought I was set for at least several more years.
  • 08
I'm just extremely lost, devastated, and scared for the future. I used all of my savings to move here and get established and only have less than three months of cash before I run out of money.
  • 09
Anyone else go through something like this? What did you do to cope? I know on paper it's not my fault but I can't help but feel like a complete and utter
  • 10
failure right now. I'm 37 and thought I had finally made it in my career only to have to start all over again.

Loose-Manufacturer • 2d ago That is rough. You're going to get past this. You've found this job, you'll find another one who treats you with respect.

  • 13
And I made my company half a billion dollars. Got made redundant. It sɩked. As did the next time. And the next. And the next. Etc.

Focus on your needs and that of your family. Job security is an illusion. Take time out if you can to get your head in a good place.

  • 16
how much you think you're valued or how great the job is. Sorry you learned this late in life, OP.

  • 18
to get that severance as a lump sum if possible vs paid over x weeks. In others you can collect both at the same time. Find out what the laws are that apply to you.

hello_brooklyn • 2d ago Can you negotiate a severance. And also File for unemployment ASAP

Legitimate_Ad785 • 2d ago. It happens, ur job doesn't make who u are, it's just a way to pay bills. One thing I learn is keep updating ur resume, sharpen ur skill and learn new skill so finding a new job will become easy. Unless u own ur own business u will always get lid off or fired.

Lumbee1979 • 2d ago Look at it this way, when one door closes another one will open and it'll be even better. This has always worked out for me. Don't beat yourself up. Just start applying vigorously to jobs and don't give up.
